Trusting in God and Sharing His Gifts

Over the past eight months, I have been on a journey with God, one that has stretched and shaped me in ways I never imagined. Leaving my former role was both freeing and daunting, as I stepped into a season where trusting God became my daily bread. There have been challenging moments—battling through negative thoughts, worrying about judgment, and holding too tightly to my own plans, like grasping a fragile butterfly. When we clutch a butterfly too tightly, we crush it, and I’ve come to realize that the same is true with the gifts God has given us.
God didn’t bless us with talents and abilities so we could keep them to ourselves. He gave them to us to share, to sow seeds of His love and kindness into the lives of others. I now see that my purpose is not just to hold tightly to what I know but to give it away, to teach, guide, and empower others to succeed.
As a nurse and educator, I’ve been given the privilege of helping nurses prepare for exams and equipping them to thrive in their roles. But this journey isn’t about selfish gain; it’s about serving God and others. It’s about using my skills to help nurses—many from countries with limited resources—step into opportunities that can change not only their lives but the lives of their families back home.
Nurses who come to live and work in New Zealand and Australia often carry the weight of their families' futures on their shoulders. They work hard, send money home, and lift their loved ones out of poverty. They are part of a much bigger picture—a ripple effect that extends beyond borders.
In New Zealand and Australia, these nurses provide invaluable support to our healthcare systems, which are often understaffed and stretched. While it’s easy to fall into the trap of seeing international nurses as “taking our jobs,” the reality is that we rely on their contributions to fill gaps in our workforce. Our own nursing programs aren’t producing enough graduates to meet demand, and many of those seats are filled by international students. These nurses aren’t just filling roles—they’re bringing love, compassion, and care to our people, all while supporting their families back home.
This perspective has deepened my gratitude and strengthened my resolve to support these nurses in their journeys. Through ThinkOn, a business Alastair and I are building together, we’re stepping into a mission grounded in faith. Combining my experience as a registered nurse and educator with his gifts as a graphic designer and creator, we’re developing resources to help nurses succeed in their studies and beyond.
ThinkOn is more than a business; it’s a ministry. Its foundation is rooted in God’s love, and its purpose is to equip nurses with the tools they need to provide excellent care while fulfilling their own dreams of a better future. We aim to train nurses to serve in New Zealand and Australia with the compassion, competence, and dedication required by our governing bodies.
This journey is a constant reminder that with God, all things are possible. When we trust Him with our gifts and share them generously, He multiplies the impact far beyond what we could imagine. To the nurses who come through ThinkOn’s training program, may God bless you, guide you, and strengthen you as you serve others with love and purpose.
Together, let’s remember the bigger picture and celebrate the ways God uses each of us to sow seeds of hope, kindness, and transformation in the world.
Blessings,
Kim
